Worldwide Box Office: Vijay’s “Leo” Outperforms Leonardo DiCaprio’s “Killers of the Flower Moon

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo, starring Vijay in the lead role, is dominating the global box office, surpassing even Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. According to Variety, Leo has grossed $48.5 million in four days, while Killers of the Flower Moon has grossed $44 million. This makes Leo the highest-grossing new release worldwide, after four days.

The Lokesh Kanagaraj film starring Vijay, earned $2.1 million in its opening weekend in the US, distributed by Prathyangira Cinemas. In the UK and Ireland, the film grossed £1.07 million ($1.3 million) in its first three days of release, distributed by Ahimsa Entertainment.

In addition to Vijay, Leo also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Madonna Sebastian, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, George Maryan, Priya Anand, and Mathew Thomas. This is the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj, after their successful film Master in 2021.

Leo is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s “Lokesh Cinematic Universe” (LCU), which also includes Kaithi and Vikram, starring Karthi and Kamal Haasan, respectively. Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, and Brendan Fraser, also premiered Out of Competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this year.

Leo’s global success is a major achievement for Indian cinema. It shows that Indian films can be successful on a global scale, if they are well-made and have a universal appeal. Leo’s success is a testament to Kanagaraj’s filmmaking skills and Vijay’s star power. The film is a mix of action, thriller, and romance, and it has been well-received by audiences and critics alike.
