Superhero Antman of Bollywood, Sameer Ali Khan Makes His Mark in Hollywood.
His big break came in the form of a mutant named ANTMAN in India's first superhero franchise, Krissh 3; directed by Rakesh Roshan.
Action star, Sameer Ali Khan began acting in his birthplace of Kabul, Afghanistan. He became known for playing tough, masculine characters on screen but his career was overshadowed by uncertain times in Afghanistan; at the onset of the Afghan Civil War. Khan held close to his dreams and looked to Indian Cinema to propel his career to the next level by using his scholarship for excellence from the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute to bring him to Mumbai. Sameer’s appetite for success in Bollywood increased accordingly with his skill in Martial Arts. He began training at 13 years old, and while he pursued action roles, he continued training in martial arts; obtaining a third Dan black belt in Taekwondo, excelled in Kickboxing and acquired skill as a fight choreographer.
Khan gained recognition in 2011 for the short film “God is Dead,” directed by Armaan Chopra. The film was nominated at the Cannes Film Festival where Khan was praised for his performance. Next he flew into theaters in the box office smash hit, Airlift, a dramatic thriller where he played “The Prince of Kuwait”. Khan used his Martial Arts skills to full effect as an underground mixed martial arts fighter is the Bollywood film “Happy New Year”, with global superstar, Sharukh Khan. Sameer Ali Khan always held a personal attachment to education so between shooting action films in India, he completed his undergrad in Political Science from Pune University.
Beyond Bollywood, Khan gained recognition for his work in mainstream Hollywood with the film “Rock the Kasbah”, directed by the legendary Barry Levinson and starring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, and Kate Hudson. His performance as a steel-fisted drug-lord cemented his reputation as the “Afghan Rock.”
Khan put his acting career on hiatus for several months due to serious injuries following his American Debut in “Rock the Kasbah”. His commitment to his health didn’t go to waste. He has since bounced back and is looking forward to pursuing his passion for acting with upcoming domestic and international projects.
Sameer is currently part of “Seal Team”; an American TV series, directed by Benjamin Cavell and produced by CBS Television Studios.
Khan’s dedication to his craft stems from his sincere wish to bring more light on the current situation in Afghanistan through his work in films and television. His future plans includes involvement in projects to help mentor youth to actively using their talents to reach to reach their potential. Khan recently reached out to his social media followers with a message of solidarity in the light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
