Awarapan 2 Box Office Preview: Emraan Hashmi Sequel Eyes Double-Digit Opening
Bollywood fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Awarapan 2 on August 14, 2026, marking Emraan Hashmi’s return to one of his most iconic roles after 19 years. Co-starring Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, the action crime drama sequel is projected to open far higher than its 2007 predecessor and could surpass the original film’s entire lifetime collection on its opening day alone.
When the original Awarapan released in 2007, it opened to a modest ₹79 lakh at the Indian box office. Despite earning praise for its soundtrack and performances, Mohit Suri’s directorial struggled commercially, ending its theatrical run with a lifetime collection of ₹7.76 crore net. Although deemed a box office failure at the time, the film eventually earned cult-classic status over the years.
Early box office projections for Awarapan 2 indicate a strong theatrical debut, with opening day estimates ranging between ₹11 crore and ₹15 crore net. At an estimated ₹11 crore opening, the sequel would represent a 1,292% increase over the original film’s day-one figures. This projected first-day haul would also comfortably eclipse the original movie’s total ₹7.76 crore lifetime box office run within its initial 24 hours.
While early tracking shows strong audience interest in Hashmi returning as Shivam Pandit, the sequel faces significant box office competition. Awarapan 2 will share theatrical screens with Sunny Deol’s historical drama Batwara 1947, releasing on the same day, as well as holdover screen presence from Spider-Man: Brand New Day across the Hindi circuit. Despite the multi-way clash, the film remains positioned for a solid commercial start.
