Rohit Shetty Shares Challenges in Casting for Rakesh Maria Biopic: “We’re Yet to Find the Right Fit
Renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty, known for his cop universe movies, is embarking on a significant project that showcases his vast experience. In 2021, he announced his plans to create a biopic on the life of Rakesh Maria, the highly revered former Commissioner of Mumbai Police. During an interview on The Lallantop, Rohit shed light on the challenges encountered in the casting process for this momentous film.
When asked about the progress of casting for the Rakesh Maria biopic, Rohit disclosed, “We haven’t finalized the cast yet. It’s because the story spans from 1985, before the Taj attack, to the present day. It encompasses the life journey of a young boy evolving into a 50-year-old man. Thus, we are facing some difficulties in finding the right actors for the role,” Rohit explained.
Rohit further mentioned that once he completes his upcoming cop universe movie, Singham Again, scheduled for release on Independence Day, he will begin shooting the biopic.
Rakesh Maria, an esteemed IPS officer from the 1981 batch, made significant contributions throughout his career. As the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), he played a crucial role in solving the notorious 1993 Bombay serial blasts case. He subsequently held positions as DCP (Crime) and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), before being appointed as the Commissioner of Mumbai Police in 2014. In 2015, he was promoted to the role of Director General of Home Guards, and he retired in 2017.
The biopic on Rakesh Maria aims to delve into the intricacies of his life, showcasing the challenges, triumphs, and sacrifices he encountered throughout his illustrious career.
