Alia Bhatt acknowledges her ‘nepo baby’ tag and ‘hopes to build a body of work to prove her worth’

Nepotism has become one of the hottest and most controversial topics of Bollywood in the last few years and the debates are still going on about this topic. In a recent interview with Vogue India, Alia Bhatt, one of Bollywood’s most popular and successful actresses, was also asked about being labelled as a ‘nepo baby’ and her efforts to shed that label. The actress also admitted that being from the film industry helped her gain a head start in her acting career, but that ultimately, fans are the best judges of ability.

“The only thing I can do is build a body of work which hopefully proves I belong in this industry,” Alia says. “I always make it a point to acknowledge the easy start I got at the beginning of my career. And sure, it will get you in the room, but then it’s up to you to work that room. The audience is actually the best judge of talent. You could come from a background that props you up but the audience will ultimately decide whether or not you belong there”, she added.

For the unversed, actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide in June 2020, sparked off the debate on nepotism in Bollywood and it is still one of the prominent topic of debate.

Alia Bhatt’s last big screen appearance was in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy, action-drama ‘Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva’ (2022), where she was cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor. The actress also has few exciting projects lined up this year. She will be next seen in Karan Johar’s family- drama ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ where she will be seen sharing screen with Ranveer Singh. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 28 July 2023. Alia is also making her Hollywood debut this year with the spy thriller Heart Of Stone, starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in the lead roles.
