Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God 2 confirmed for theatrical release?  To be unveiled soon

There have been media rumours in recent months that the makers of Akshay Kumar’s next film OMG 2, a sequel to the immensely acclaimed film OMG- Oh My God, are choosing for a direct-to-digital distribution via JioCinema rather than a theatrical release. Many believed it to be genuine, especially after Akshay’s previous release, ‘Selfiee’s disastrous box office reports. However, according to recent media reports, the producers are confident in the film’s box office performance and have decided to release it theatrically.

As per Pinkvilla, a source close to the development said, “Akshay Kumar along with his partners, Ashwin Varde, Viacom 18, and Jio Studios have decided on a theatrical release for Oh My God 2. Several discussions happened throughout the course of making, but, Oh My God 2 was always announced as a theatrical venture. The officials never commented on the OTT release, and even today, the film is being readied as a theatrical venture. The final edit is being locked and worked upon at this point of time. The theatrical release date of Oh My God 2 will be announced soon.”

OMG 2 is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2012 courtroom drama ‘OMG: Oh My God’. In the film, Akshay played Lord Krishna, who descends to Earth to assist atheist businessman Kanji Mehta (Paresh Rawal), whose shop is devastated in an earthquake and when the insurance company refuses to compensate him citing an “act of God,” Kanji files a lawsuit against God.

Amit Rai wrote and directed the sequel OMG 2, which also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. Akshay Kumar plays Lord Shiva in the film.

Akshay will have two more theatrical movies this year, including the aerial thriller ‘The Great Indian Rescue’ and the Hindi remake of Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. The producers will soon announce the release dates for both films.
