Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Padman’ to have a worldwide release

Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar’s last release ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ was a satirical comic caper and it earned decent success at the box-office. Now, the superstar will next be seen in upcoming movie ‘Padman’. The film is based on true tale of the social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who invented sanitary pad making machine of low cost for poor women in rural India and gave rise to cost-effective female hygiene in the nation’s rural parts. The film shows how this man risked his everything for this purpose even including his reputation and family’s respect in the society. It has is roots dipped in the book ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’, penned by the actor’s wife and best-selling author Twinkle Khanna.

‘Padman’ is directed by R. Balki and also features Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. The latest news update about the film stated that the Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the global rights to handle the worldwide distribution for ‘Padman’. The international studio has partnered with KriArj Entertainment for this Akshay Kumar starrer.

President of Sony’s Columbia Pictures, Sanford Panitch praised Akshay Kumar by saying “Akshay is the rarest of artists [who has] found a way with this film to make a wonderfully affecting and heartwarming movie that also can impact social change.”

The socially-conscious drama ‘Padman’ hits the screens on January 26, 2018.

Apart from this venture, Akshay Kumar will next be seen in the film ‘2.0’, which is the sequel of Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer ‘Robot’. The actor will be seen in never-seen-before look in this flick. Akshay Kumar’s next is ‘Gold’, the tale of India’s first Olympic medal post the independence. ‘Gold’ is directed by Reema Kagti. The movie will mark the Bollywood debut of the television star Mouni Roy.
