Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Responds to Harsh Criticism of Her Cannes Look: ‘It Was Just Magical’

Amidst the glamorous atmosphere of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the actor and L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador, has once again captured the spotlight. While her annual presence at this prestigious event always garners significant attention, her red-carpet appearances this year have been met with mixed reviews. Some fashion critics and netizens have expressed their opinions on her outfit choices. However, Aishwarya remains unfazed and has spoken out about her Cannes looks. In a recent video feature by Vogue India, the iconic actress shared insights into the creative minds behind her first-day appearance at Cannes. She revealed that her dear friends, Shane and Falguni Peacock, were the brilliant designers behind the ensemble, aptly named “Guilded Glow.”
Aishwarya, who has returned to Mumbai, described the outfit as “magical” and emphasized the desire to achieve a fresh and beautiful makeup look to complement the ensemble. “The look last evening on the red carpet was designed by my dearest friends Shane and Falguni Peacock. They call it gilded glow but to me, it was just magical,” expressed the 50-year-old actress, accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan at the festival. For her first appearance, Aishwarya chose a black gown adorned with elegant embellishments.
The white puffed sleeves added a touch of drama to the ensemble, while her signature cat eyeliner and bold lips provided a striking complement to the outfit. Despite her graceful presence on the iconic steps of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, Aishwarya’s look received mixed reviews. Some felt that it appeared “shabby” and “unattractive” rather than “dramatic,” suggesting that it lacked the desired style and glamour. The video, which was uploaded as a YouTube Short on Vogue India’s channel, sparked further commentary from netizens, criticizing Aishwarya’s fashion choices.
One user expressed, “Alas sorry gown… Magical… No… Time to change your designer.” Another Reddit user commented, “Aish please ditch those designers and go for someone who’ll dress you up beautifully. They made a mockery out of that second green-white gown. Also, this jacket is another Daler Mehendi types.” Aishwarya’s second Cannes look featured a striking silver and blue gown with dramatic sleeves and a voluminous skirt. Designed by the celebrated duo, the ensemble evoked mixed reactions, resulting in memes and harsh critiques from some netizens who deemed it “outright bizarre.”
