Age is just a number! TV shows that proved it with their age-gap love stories

TV shows are an integral part of our lives, and one can’t find anything better than them to entertain themselves. While Saas-bahu dramas are popular among housewives, the younger generation prefers shows with unique love stories. We have always been taught that love is pure and goes beyond age, religion, gender, and other criteria. Famous matchmaker Sima Taparia might have termed

While some people in a society strictly consider age in relationships, the content on television has often made attempts to break this stereotyped mindset. Various TV shows in the past introduced the concept of age-gap love stories to educate the audience, make them realise that such relationships exist, and normalise them. Here are some of them:

1. Kuch Toh log Kahenge – Sony TV

Kuch Toh Log Kahenge featuring Kritika Kamra and Mohnish Behl aired on Sony TV (2011-2013). It depicted the love story of two doctor colleagues at Kotnis General Hospital in Lucknow. The love story of Dr. Nidhi with  Dr. Ashutosh, who is 18 years elder than her was an amazing offering from the channel. Sony TV has been known for bringing realistic shows that resonate with the audience and this one also matched the expectations of the viewers.

2. Aap Ke Aa Jane Se – Zee TV

ZEE TV’s drama Aap Ke Aa Jane Se was another impressive show that broke the age stereotype and also showed women empowerment. The daily soap that aired in 2018 brought a cute love story of a 40-year-old middle-class girl who is a traditional, single mother, Vedika and a 24-year-old spoiled, rich guy, Sahil. Aap Ke Aa Jane Se is one of the best TV shows depicting age-gap love stories with utmost perfection.

3. Dil Sambhal Ja Zara – Star Plus

With a stellar Star cast of actors Sanjay Kapoor, Smriti Kalra and Aashim Gulati, the show brought a love triangle and complicated relationship. The show that aired on Star Plus in 2017 told the story of a young girl named Ahana. Her life in modern India, getting entangled in complex relationships and falling in love with a middle-aged guy, Anant, formed a core part of the plot.

4. Na Umra ki Seema Ho – Star Bharat

The currently airing show of Muhammed Iqbal Khan and Rachana Mistry on Star Bharat is also on the list of age-gap love stories based show. Vidhi Sharma, a young lady develops feelings for a middle-aged businessman Devvrat Raichand. They decide to proceed with their journey of love and acceptance that transcends age.

5. Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya – Sony TV

TV’s Naagin Tejasswi Prakash collaborated with actor Rohit Suchanti in Sony TV’s Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya. In the show’s plot, she played a young princess (Diya)  who marries a young little prince (Ratan) just to fulfil her promise to protect him. Later, they fall in love and make a happy couple together. The show was bashed by people when it started airing as ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ as the concept of a child marrying a young lady wasn’t accepted by the audience. The makers then took the story forward with a leap where the child was shown all grown up. This one is also included in age-gap love story TV shows.
