YRF Puts NTR Jr.’s Standalone Spy Universe Film on Hold After War 2’s Failure

The unexpected failure of War 2 has shaken Yash Raj Films (YRF) deeply, forcing the studio to rethink its future plans. The movie not only faced criticism for its weak storyline but also performed poorly at the box office, resulting in significant financial losses for all involved. As a result, YRF head Aditya Chopra has decided to halt the standalone film centered on NTR Jr.’s character, Agent Vikram.
A source close to the studio shared with Bollywood Hungama, “YRF was eager to leverage NTR Jr.’s Pan-India appeal by developing a spin-off focused on Agent Vikram. The creative team was actively working on this project, but the failure of War 2 has brought all progress to a stop.”Aditya Chopra has made it clear that moving forward with the Agent Vikram spin-off is no longer viable.
He communicated this decision directly to NTR Jr., who reportedly agreed with the assessment and parted ways with YRF on amicable terms. The source revealed, “Agent Vikram’s film isn’t feasible anymore, and NTR Jr.—known as the Man of Masses—understood the situation. He will no longer be part of the Spy Universe, as his involvement in War 2 was contingent on the promise of a solo Agent Vikram film following it.”
Looking ahead, YRF is shifting focus to the next chapter of its Spy Universe: Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. The film is tentatively scheduled for release during Christmas 2025. This reshaping of YRF’s spy franchise signals a fresh direction following the setbacks caused by War 2, as the studio aims to rebuild and reimagine its cinematic universe.
