The Hindi adaptation of John le Carré’s celebrated novel, The Night Manager, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, has garnered a nomination for the International Emmys 2024 in the Best Drama Series category. This achievement stands out for India, as it is the only Indian nominee in this year’s prestigious competition. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations, with President and CEO Bruce L. Paisner praising the nominated shows for their ability to transcend cultural boundaries, highlighting the universal appeal of outstanding storytelling, irrespective of its origin.
In a thrilling addition to the event, Indian stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das has been chosen to host the 2024 International Emmys. Having previously received nominations and even an Emmy for his Netflix specials, Das expressed his gratitude for being given this prestigious opportunity. His role as host marks a historic milestone for Indian representation at the Emmys, showcasing the growing influence of Indian talent on the global stage.The Night Manager, based on John le Carré’s timeless classic, weaves a gripping tale of espionage and intrigue. The Indian version, produced by The Ink Factory and Banijay Asia, narrates the story of a former soldier who becomes a night manager at a luxury hotel. As he is recruited by a government intelligence agency, he delves into the world of a powerful arms dealer, embarking on a high-stakes mission filled with suspense and danger.
Directed by Sandeep Modi, the series features an impressive ensemble cast, including Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, Saswata Chatterjee, and Ravi Behl. The show premiered on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar, quickly gaining attention for its captivating storyline and performances.In this adaptation, Aditya Roy Kapur takes on the role of Shaan Sengupta, a night manager at a hotel in Dhaka, who becomes embroiled in the dangerous world of international arms dealer Shailendra, portrayed by Anil Kapoor.
