Filmmaker Mani Ratnam admitted to Chennai hospital

One of the industry’s most celebrated filmmakers Mani Ratnam has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai. According to reports, the filmmaker was taken to a hospital due to feverish symptoms. There are no major updates on his health presently.

According to a source quoted by PTI, the filmmaker is expected to be released on Tuesday. “Sources said the ace director was taken to the hospital with symptoms of fever today and he underwent a checkup. He had tested negative for COVID-19, and is likely to be discharged today, the source added,” PTI stated.

On the professional front, Mani Ratnam is awaiting the release of his period drama Ponniyin Selvan, the teaser for which was recently released and has been making headlines ever since. Lyca Productions is responsible for the film’s production. The period drama is based on the popular historical novel Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy (The Son Of Ponni).

Popular actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan leads the ensemble cast, which also includes Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. This year’s release date for the film is September 30.

Mani Ratnam is best known for directing classic films in multiple languages, including Nayakan, Thalapathi, Geethanjali, Bombay, Dil Se.., and Iiruvar. In recent years, he has directed the films Guru (2007) and Raavan (2010). He also supported the Netflix anthology Navarasa, which starred Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Revathi, and other big names. He also owns Madras Talkies, a film production company.
