A man hit by actor Rajat Bedi’s car died on Tuesday night; cops add death by negligence to FIR

The man hit by actor Rajat Bedi’s car died on Tuesday night at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai, prompting the police to charge Bedi with death by negligence on Wednesday.

“The accident victim Rajesh Baudh, a labourer, was declared dead in the Cooper Hospital where he was being treated for the last two days,” police officials said.

Following the incident, the DN Nagar Police have added section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence) to the FIR filed against Bedi.

In this case, the Bollywood actor has yet to be apprehended.

The accident happened around 6.30 p.m. on Monday near Shitladevi bus stop on the link road in Andheri West, according to the police.

Rajesh, who was drunk, abruptly crossed the road and was struck by the actor’s car before he could apply the brakes.

The actor then drove the injured person to the adjacent Cooper Hospital before reporting the event to the DN Nagar police station.

The actor was charged under Indian Penal Code sections 279 and 338 (causing grievous harm by act endangering life or personal safety of others) as well as section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

“We checked the CCTV cameras but did not get any leads. We are trying to find witnesses in the case,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, Bedi’s team said in a statement that they have helped the victim’s family in any way they can and would continue to work with the police.

“We wish to extend our profound sympathies to Mr Rajesh’s family and will assist them in whatever way possible. Suresh, Rajat’s friend, has been with the family throughout and has provided financial assistance. He also performed his final rituals today. Rajat is cooperating with authorities and consulting with his team on how to proceed and take the next steps,” Bedi’s team said.
