Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff Respond to Vimal Pan Masala FDA Notice, Shah Rukh Khan Yet to Reply
Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff have officially submitted their legal responses to the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding show cause notices issued over their endorsement of a Vimal advertisement. Meanwhile, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was also served a notice in the same matter, has yet to reply to the state regulatory authority.
According to media reports, the Maharashtra FDA confirmed receiving formal replies from Devgn and Shroff. However, specific details regarding the contents of their responses remain confidential due to ongoing legal procedures. The controversy centers on a commercial starring Devgn, Khan, and Shroff that promotes Vimal’s Elaichi (cardamom) variant. The Maharashtra FDA raised serious objections, alleging that the commercial amounts to surrogate advertising and indirect promotion of pan masala under the umbrella brand name.
The regulator’s official notice emphasized that the advertisement prima facie promotes the Vimal brand, which is primarily identified with pan masala—a product currently banned in Maharashtra. The state government issued a comprehensive prohibition order effective July 13, 2026, banning the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of pan masala across Maharashtra for one year under Section 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The notices were delivered to the actors’ respective addresses across Mumbai. Devgn received his notice at his Juhu residence, Khan was served at his Bandra home Mannat, and Shroff received his at the office of Tiger Shroff Productions LLP.
This regulatory crackdown has reignited public debate surrounding celebrity endorsements and the line between legal product variants like mouth fresheners and surrogate pan masala marketing. Despite the widespread media coverage and legal scrutiny, all three actors have maintained public silence, choosing not to release official press statements regarding the FDA notices. While the legal filings of Devgn and Shroff are currently under official review, the FDA continues to await Shah Rukh Khan’s formal response.
