Mumbai Court Restrains CarryMinati from Posting Defamatory Content Against Karan Johar
A Mumbai court has issued an order restraining YouTuber Ajey Nagar, popularly known as CarryMinati, along with talent manager Deepak Char and others, from publishing or sharing any defamatory content against filmmaker Karan Johar on social media.
The order was passed on February 9 by Principal Sessions Judge P.G. Bhonsale in the case titled Karan Johar v. Ajey Nagar & Ors. The plea was filed by Johar through Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions, Johar’s production house.
Allegations of Defamatory and Abusive Content
In his plea, Johar alleged that the influencers had made defamatory and abusive statements about him in videos uploaded on YouTube. The plea described the content as “vulgar and abusive,” urging immediate removal. Nagar’s counsel argued that the videos in question had already been taken down and claimed there was no longer any reason for the court’s intervention.
Karan Johar refuted this, stating that although the original videos were deleted, they had already been viewed by “millions of people” and were being reshared in the form of reels and clips by unknown users across social media platforms.
Court Grants Ad-Interim Injunction
After considering the arguments, the court noted that prima facie evidence suggested Nagar and Char had made defamatory remarks using vulgar language against Johar. The court stated, “These videos need to be taken down immediately. An injunction is necessary against all parties circulating or re-circulating these videos on social media. This case merits an ad-interim injunction.”
Consequently, the court temporarily restrained the content creators and unnamed parties (referred to as John Doe) from posting or sharing any further defamatory content against Karan Johar until the matter is fully heard.
