2018 becomes the highest grossing Malayalam movie worldwide

Multi-starrer Malayalam movie 2018 has added another record to its box office collection as it minted Rs. 137 crore at worldwide box office. The film has now become the highest grossing Malayalam movie ever overtaking Mohanlal’s action drama ‘Pulimurugan’.

2018 earned Rs. 10. 75 crore in the third weekend taking its total Indian nett collection to Rs. 74 crore out of which 65.30 crore came from Kerala state. 2018 is now the  fourth highest-grossing movie ever in Kerala behind KGF: Chapter 2 (68 crore), Baahubali 2 (73 crore) and Pulimurugan (78 crore).

Reportedly, Jude Anthany Joseph’s disaster drama is all set to surpass KGF: Chapter 2 and Baahubali 2 collection in Kerala by the end of this week.

2018 is based on actual events of the 2018 flash floods that occurred in Kerala and took away many lives. The film stars Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Lal and Narain with an ensemble supporting cast .Malayalam-language survival thriller film is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, who wrote the screenplay with Akhil P. Dharmajan.

For the unversed, the film was initially scheduled to be released in theatres on 21 April, however it was postponed by two weeks and finally released on 5 May. Despite the delay in release, the film had a rousing reception at the box office is still making money.

Akhil George was in charge of cinematography, and Chaman Chakko was in charge of editing. The film’s background soundtrack and music were composed by Nobin Paul and William Francis. Venu Kunnappilly and CK Padma Kumar produced the film for Rs 15 crore through their Kavya Film Company.
