Bollywood has always been a great part of our lives. Everything we do is somehow inspired by this industry. But what is Bollywood all about? Is it just about glamour and glitterati? Is it just about the gossips, scandals and controversies? As a die-hard fan of Hindi movies, it pains my heart to see how day by day people’s perception about the film industry is changing. This article is for my own ego boost, a voice against all those who think it is just showbiz. Out of hundreds of great films, here are just 10 of such movies that made us fall in love with Bollywood.
- Sholay
This film is always going to be one of the most epic films ever made in the industry. It had everything- romance, tragedy, action, story in the right amount. Just the perfect recipe for a blockbuster!
- Rang De Basanti
Never before had a movie had such a huge impact on the youth. Rang de Basanti was the movie that needed to awaken the youth and sit back to take notice of the struggles the freedom fighters had to go through so that we can have a peaceful sleep.
- Chak de India
Even in a movie with such a huge cast, hockey stood out to be the unsung hero of the movie. Probably the best movie of SRK’s career, this movie was loved by one and all.
- Barfi
How a deaf and dumb guy and an autistic girl could pull off an entire movie as protagonists, without a hint of glamour is simply amazing. Barfi went to win millions of hearts and is one pf the most touching movies ever made.
- Highway
Never before was a movie made on the Stockholm syndrome, so different from the usual romance Bollywood shoes us. Imtiaz Ali is class apart when it comes to storytelling and this movie is the perfect example of how much Bollywood has advanced.

What lends a normal movie a soul is the characters that the movie portrays and with Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary, they just breathed life into the movie.

How a father and daughter bond over the simplest of things, even over fights is such a delight to watch. This movie is a tribute to all the fathers out there who have gone out of their ways to make sure our lives were easy.
- Kahaani
Whoever said Bollywood isn’t the place for thrillers were slapped hard right at their face by Kahaani. How a mainstream Bollywood actress took the entire responsibility of running a movie on her shoulders and make a superhit out of it.
- Mary Kom
The woman who deserves an applause. The world would never have known her inspiring story hadn’t it been for the movie. Respect for Mary Kom!
