Vivek Agnihotri refuses to be part of Filmfare Awards ceremony; calls it ‘unethical and anti-cinema awards’

The Filmfare Awards ceremony is one of India’s most well-known cinema events. The 68th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2023 has announced it’s nominations and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files has received seven nominations including Best film, best director for Vivek Agnihotri, best actor in a lead part for Anupam Kher, best actor in a supporting role for Darshan Kumar and Mithun Chakraborty, best script for Vivek Agnihotri, and best editing for Shankh Rajyadhaksha are among the nominees.

However, in his most recent Tweet, Vivek Agnihotri slammed and declined to attend this year’s Filmfare Awards ceremony. The filmmaker, who is known for his controversial views, expressed his displeasure and stated that he declined to participate in this award event as a protest. and dissent against a corrupt, unethical award ceremony.

Taking to Twitter, Vivek Agnihotri Tweeted, “I learnt from media that #TheKashmirFiles is nominated in 7 categories for the 68th Filmfare Awards. But I politely refuse to be part of these unethical and anti-cinema awards. Here is why According to Filmfare, other than the stars, nobody has a face. Nobody matters. That’s why, in the sycophant and unethical world of Filmfare, Master Directors like Sanjay Bhansali or Sooraj Barjatya have no faces. Sanjay Bhansali looks like Alia Bhatt, Sooraj like Mr. Bachchan and Annes Bazmi like Karthik Aryan. It’s not that a filmmaker’s dignity comes from Filmfare Awards but this humiliating system must end. “Therefore, as my protest and dissent against a corrupt, unethical and sycophant establishment of Bollywood, I have decided to not accept such awards. I refuse to be part of any oppressive and corrupt system or awards which treats writers, directors and other HODs & crew members of a film inferior to and/or as slaves to stars. My congratulations to all those who win and more to those who do not. The brighter side is that I am not alone. Slowly but steadily, a parallel Hindi film industry is emerging. Until then….”

The Kashmir Files was inspired by the migration of Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s. The film received significant acclaim from Indian viewers and grossed approximately 350 crores at the box office. Several national film awards have been bestowed for the film.

The 68th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2023 will be hosted on April 27 at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre. This year’s star-studded award event will be hosted by none other than Salman Khan alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Maniesh Paul.
