Dil Bechara Sequel to Proceed Without Sushant Singh Rajput, Mukesh Chhabra Affirms No Intent to Exploit the Film

Dil Bechara, featuring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi, hit the screens on July 24, 2020. Tragically, it was the last film to star SSR, who passed away on June 14, 2020. Directed by Mukesh Chhabra, it served as his directorial debut. The movie, a coming-of-age romantic comedy, was a Hindi adaptation of the 2014 Hollywood film The Fault in Our Stars, which was based on a book with the same title. At the beginning of this year, Mukesh Chhabra took to Twitter to express his plans for Dil Bechara 2.
This sparked curiosity among many, as they wondered if he would proceed with the movie without Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role. Recently, the casting director clarified whether or not he would continue the project without SSR. Mukesh Chhabra revealed that he had tweeted about a potential Dil Bechara sequel because he genuinely intended to make one. The film holds deep emotional significance for him, particularly in relation to Sushant. As a result, he came to the realization that he shouldn’t touch the film.
In an interview with News 18, Chhabra explained, “I was working on a film that I wanted to name ‘Dil Bechara 2,’ but that title will always belong to Sushant. I don’t want to use that name. I don’t want to capitalize on that film now. I want to preserve its beauty.” While shooting Dil Bechara, there were discussions with Sushant about collaborating again in the future. Chhabra admitted that he prefers working with people he has previously collaborated with, such as Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor.
Lastly, Chhabra expressed his desire to work with Sushant Singh Rajput on two to four more films. He stated, “Sometimes, we like to work with the same people because we are comfortable with them and understand each other well. But Sushant had other plans, and we can’t change fate. I will always cherish every moment I spent with Sushant. I remember having meals with him and my mother. Both of them are no longer here. I miss having breakfast with the two of them.”
