Zoya Akhtar to make documentary series for a digital platform on Salim-Javed’s life

Zoya Akhtar is one of the most celebrated filmmakers of Bollywood. She has given us some of the most memorable films of all time. Her last film Gully Boy starring Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Siddhant Chaturvedi was a game-changer for the Hindi film industry. While everyone was wondering what would be the next project for the filmmaker. We hear that Zoya already has something in mind for her next project.

Now according to a report, for the last two years, Zoya has been silently working on documenting her father, Javed Akthar and his writing partner, Salim Khan’s life.

“Zoya feels that the Salim-Javed combo gave a new lease to writers in the Hindi film industry and their achievements deserve to make it to the spectacle. While at first, she was planning to spin a biopic for theatres on their life, through the lockdown she felt that the story demands to be showcased on a digital medium,” Pinkvilla quoted a source as saying.

According to the reports, she believes that the Salim-Javed duo has given a new lease to writers in the Hindi film industry. Zoya is in talks with Salim and Javed independently to ensure an objective approach to the story

The source further added, “She has been talking to both Salim Khan and Javed Akthar independently to ensure an objective approach to the story. Multiple meetings have taken place and Zoya is on the verge of closing the material that she wants to bring in her story”.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar have given some of the most iconic films of Hindi cinema including Zanjeer, Sholay, Deewar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Trishul, Don, Shaan and Shakti among others.

While it’s not clear whether the two legends will themselves make an appearance. “In-fact, if the docu-drama gets an overwhelming response with the audience asking for more, don’t be surprised if the story is dramatized for a theatrical medium with actors stepping into the shoes of this iconic writer duo. It’s all being kept under wraps at the moment,” the source signed off.
