Gully Boy turned out to be an eye opener for the rap world in the eyes of the local public. It should be known that mostly Indians haven’t made much into the rapping stage but, with Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, things have really changed. Similar also happened with the Oscar nomination list as well.
Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy has been officially announced as India’s entry for Oscars.
Zoya talking about the film said that with Gully Boy, Lust Stories and Made in Heaven, it has been a terrific year for her as a filmmaker.
Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar however, has been simply overwhelmed with the kind of support that the Hindi film industry has been showering to her film, Gully Boy, ever since it was announced as India’s official entry at the Oscars.
Adding to her overwhelming happiness, Zoya said, “It is overwhelming when you see such positivity from your industry and fraternity. There has been a lot of support and we are just very happy. I am very grateful for this chance.”
Ever since the announcement was made, Zoya has kept receiving congratulation notes from many Bollywood actors and filmmakers. People have been coming in congratulating the film’s team over the past few days.
She further added, “I am very happy for myself, for my production team and my crew. Let’s see what happens. Now, the work starts.”
Recently, the popular Netflix anthology film Lust Stories, which Zoya a co-directed with three others, was also nominated for the 2019 International Emmys however, it didn’t make to the winners list.
She further said, “It’s been a very good year. Over the past year, Lust Stories, even Made In Heaven and Gully Boy, have been well received by the audience. So, it’s been a positive year and I am very excited.”
Talking about her upcoming projects, Zoya mentioned while talking to the media at a Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival event in Mumbai, “We are working on season 2 of Made In Heaven. After that, we are making another show. Apart from that, Reema (Kagti) and I are scripting my film, and her film. We are also doing a docu-series so, (her production company) Tiger Baby Films is in full swing right now.”
