Shalini Talwar, the wife of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, went on record on Thursday to say that she has been physically beaten by Singh for the previous ten years, and that his family has broken her mentally and emotionally. She also claimed that he was “alcohol-addicted” and had many physical interactions with other women.
Talwar has also filed a lawsuit against her spouse at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court under the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.’
As a result of the numerous accusations levelled against him, Singh has finally chosen to speak up and provide his side of the story. He issued an official response on social media, rejecting all of the charges.
The statement by Honey Singh read, “I am deeply pained and distressed by the false and malicious allegations levied against me and my family by my companion/wife of 20 years, Mrs Shalini Talwar.”
He further continued, “The allegations are severely odious. I have never issued a public statement or press note in the past despite being subjected to harsh criticism for my lyrics, speculation on my health, & negative media coverage in general. However, I see no merit in maintaining a studied silence this time because some of the allegations have been directed at my family – my old parents and younger sister – who have stood by me during some very difficult and trying times and comprise my world. The allegations are cynical and defaming in nature.”
He strongly condemns all of the charges in the statement, but says he won’t say anything else since the subject is under-judice before the Court of Law. He stated that he has complete faith in this country’s justice system and is convinced that the truth will prevail.
