World Mental Health Day: These films create awareness of mental health issues. Save it to your watchlist today!

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th every year to create awareness about mental issues and support the mental health of people around you.

We all know that our mental health indirectly affects our physical well-being. A happy person lives a healthy life, but an unhappy soul is surrounded by different physical diseases. We all need to keep a balance between our physical and mental health to be in a good state. This is how the vehicle of life goes on.

.When it comes to discussing our mental health, people hesitate to talk about it even today. Many people are still not aware of subjects like stress, depression, and bipolar disorder. But now, efforts are constantly being made to create awareness about mental well-being. Through its films, Bollywood has also made frequent attempts to educate people about this sensitive subject.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we bring you such movies which talk about mental health. You can add them to your watch list!

1) Dear Zindagi 

Gauri Shinde’s directorial, Dear Zindagi, which starred Aliya Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles, was among the hit movies of 2016. Besides its success at the box office, reviewers and the audience also appreciated the film.

It focuses on Alia Bhatt’s character, Kaira, a mentally disturbed girl. Kaira approaches Jagdish Singh, a mental health expert, played by Shah Rukh Khan. This film effectively educates you about mental health and teaches you to never ignore mental health issues and to seek help instead.

2) Chhichhore

Sushant Singh Rajput’s and Shraddha Kapoor’s Chhichhore are popular even among young people as they revolve around college life. In the film, Sushant Singh Rajput’s son tries to commit suicide, after which SSR tells him his story. He narrates how he and his friends never gave up during the toughest phase of their lives.

The movie tells us that mental health is more important than external appearance and public acclaim.

3)Taare Zaamen Par

This 2007 film that Aamir directed starred Darsheel Safari as the lead. Aamir himself acted in the film. It was one of the biggest hits during its release. It shows the life of an 8-year-old kid (Darsheel) and how he battles Dyslexia. Aamir, who plays an art teacher in the film, helps Darsheel fight his mental issues. 

4) My name is Khan 

Shah Rukh and Kajol reunited after years for this amazing film, which did wonders at the box office when it was released in 2010. Shah Rukh’s character Rizwan fights Asperger’s syndrome, and during this, he meets Mandira (Kajol), who helps him in his fight. 

Besides this, many movies have shown mentally-challenged or disturbed characters to educate everyone that such people exist and that we should handle them with love and affection. Some of them include Barfi (Priyanka Chopra’s character), Kartik Calling Kartik (Farhan Akhtar), Koi mil Gaya (Hrithik Roshan), Heroine (Kareena Kapoor), and Tere Naam (Salman Khan), among others.
