Directed by Vishal Furia and written by Vishal Kapoor, the web series, Bombers is soon going to be premiered was on Zee5 on June 22. The erstwhile French colony Chandannagar,  situated along the Hooghly river in West Bengal stages for an underdog sports story in the web series Bombers. Director  Vishal Furia is well known for his amazing direction works  for Lapachhapi and Criminal Justice. The Zee5 web series will follow the several trials and tribulations of the fictional Chandannagar-based football club Bombers FC.

Further the story covers, the tragic bus accident that kills all players of the club except Badol (Varun Mitra). A minister, Manik Dasgupta (Sameer Soni), moves ahead for the kill by taking over the club’s grounds and commissioning a shopping mall. The only way left for Bombers FC to refuse Manik to get the possession of the land is to rebuild the team from scratch. Set to release on June 22, Bombers stars some of the popular faces including Ranvir Shorey, Zakir Hussain, Sapna Pabbi, Aahana Kumra and Meiyang Chang in the key roles.

The reason to pick Chandannagar for the story was due to its rich French heritage, which in turn has influenced the intense passion for the game of football that its residents have by birth. While talking to a media platform the witer, Kapoor said, “Every time, during the football world cup finals, the entire city is drowned in the French flag’s colours and people are on the streets to cheer for France.”

It must be known that the place and people here are so fond of cricket that the 2018 football world cup final match between France and Croatia was set on a live telecast on a giant screen in Chandannagar.

Kapoor has perfectly given a tour of the world of the series and its characters in the web series.

Aahana Kumra who plays Sanjana also added a lot on the show, “After the accident, Badol is suffering from his demons and he has gone into a shell,” he said. “He is considering playing for a Mumbai club, but the city holds him back. He has, meanwhile, detached himself from his girlfriend Sanjana, who worries about Badol, but he doesn’t want sympathy.”

Bombers FC’s owner Somu (Zakir Hussain) brings in one of the club’s former players, Debu (Ranvir Shorey) who coaches the new team with Badol as captain. The plan is to win the Zee Bangla Football League, an actual West Bengal-based tournament which is started by Zee Entertainment Enterprises and owned by Zee5. The tournament has been incorporated in the series.

Kapoor further said, “Debu da was once a top player in the club, but his arrogant ways led to Somu da getting rid of him.” In the meanwhile, the journey of the club has also been documented by the documentary filmmaker Andy (Sapna Pabbi).

The idea of a football team obliterated by an accident is actually inspired by real-life tragedies, such as the 1958 airplane accident, ending lives of 11 members of the Manchester United team, and the 1993 airplane accident, killing all members of the Zambian football team.

Kapoor, a Manchester United fan, has got the sport spirit right, however, his grasp on the particularities of Bengali culture in the series set seem to be a bit foreign to him.

Speaking on the same, Kapoor said, “I have tried my best with the research. So have my crew and the entire cast, despite a short period of time. I know there can be complaints, but we have given our 100% to this.”

Following Bombers, Kapoor is further taking up the new assignment to write the second season of the series, Zee5’s Abhay, second season and a web series for sizzlingstar with director Ken Ghosh. Meanwhile, he is also refining the script of Furia’s Hindi debut, the horror film, Bogie No S4, a project that won two major awards at the 2018 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
