War 2 Sees 42% Box Office Boost on Independence Day; Hrithik Roshan-NTR Jr. Ended up Earning Around Rs. 40 Crore

Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 gained significant traction on its second day, propelled by the Independence Day holiday. Early estimates suggested that the Hindi version of the will earn between Rs. 38 to Rs. 40 crore on Friday, marking a strong 42% increase over its opening day figures. However, the collection went a little higher than the expected figure. The first day collection was around 27.50 Cr while the 2nd day it was 13.50 and the total collection went on to be around 41 Cr.
This surge was mainly driven by robust footfalls in mass belt regions, where audience turnout was notably higher than on Day 1. The national holiday resulted in increased occupancy levels starting from morning shows, with single screens in Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns showing the most substantial gains. However, such holiday-driven spikes are typical for major releases and may not necessarily predict sustained box office performance.
At the same time, the Hindi version’s limited availability in Nizam and Andhra, due to the Telugu version’s dominance, has constrained its potential earnings in those markets. With this momentum, War 2 is projected to wrap up its first two days with a Hindi box office total of approximately Rs. 68-70 crore.
This figure remains below expectations for a high-budget Rs. 400 crore spectacle. While the Independence Day boost provides a welcome lift heading into the weekend, the key challenge will be maintaining strong business once the holiday effect fades.
The upcoming Janmashtami festival on Saturday might help keep occupancy high in some mass markets, but the Telugu version is anticipated to experience a sharp decline. At present, War 2 moves into the weekend riding the wave of holiday enthusiasm. Whether it can translate this momentum into lasting box office success remains a critical question for the film’s overall performance. The film is expected to earn huge at the box office if we count on the South Indian versions.
