Light Film Covering the Real time Hard emotions in the most sagacious way

This Friday, you have a couple of movies releasing, which one being the comedy drama movie called Waiting. The film has Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin in the pivotal while Rajat Kapoor, Suhasini Maniratnam and Arjun Mathur are playing the supporting roles. The film revolves around relationship between two strangers coming from diverse walks of life who get into friendship while being in hospital and nursing their respective spouses found in coma. The film was screened at the Dubai International Film Festival last year and was able to collect rave reviews about the same. The film is directed by Anu Menon, while it is produced by Priti Gupta & Manish Mundra under the banner of Ishka Films in association with Drishyam Films. Time to dig in deep to get the gist of the same as under:

Story

You have  a newly married young couple called Tara played by Kalki Koechlin and Rajat played by Arjun Mathur whose life seems perfect until the husband meets an accident leading him to coma leaving his wife behind. In a hospital based in Cochin, she meets Shiv played by Naseeruddin Shah who is his wife hospitalized for being in coma.  Soon they are seen befriending and try to make them happy to see them liking each other. The story of the movie simply divulges into the subjects of coping with grief and at the very same time finding hope. The film was meant to be a representative of the urban India and the ethos. So, what happens next is interesting to explore catching up the film.

Review

The film is subtly poignant and aptly witty if you talk about script. Having a number of comical elements using in the form or irony, you can make out the wittiness of the script.  The two characters in the film with pivotal role showcases the generation gap in the two, hence when the professor Shiv is a well read man on medical issues is absolutely unaware about the microblogging site – Twitter. Similarly, the slangs like F*ck used by the young girl confuses the man when she says the same hearing that the couple didn’t had any child and it passed 40 years remaining together. The story of the film has a touch of realism and so is the every character designed. Similarly, the supporting roles are also designed with great wit including the doctor who has to step into the shoes of God for his patients’ sake. You may find minimal detour in the film but overall the picture of the film is that it can hold you till the last scene giving things in a light fashion.

Star Performances

Kalki Koechlin is a winner by giving her apt and very much expressive performance in the film getting into the character with great ease and confidence. Also the veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has done a great job in expressing the perfect emotions of a man with broken heart inside but shows all the sign of positive energy and confidence. Rajat Kapoor while playing the character of Dr. Malhotra has done a decent job in the supporting character. He is seen exceling in the scene wherein he teaches his junior doctor how to break any bad news to his patient. Lastly Rajiv Ravindranathan is seen putting life with his small screen presence.

Music, Direction and other elements

Despite the film having longing losing the loved ones, Waiting doesn’t have any one moment in the film showcasing the same. The film is shot in the hospital with majority of the movie is seen lighting bright. The filmmaker was excellent in his skills; however, how come he is shooting in Cochin and has forgot to cover some of the best locations, which the God’s Own Country delivers to such people. Music is aptly presented in the film with the way it deserved. The editing is tight and gives sufficient amount of run time, which is more than enough to cover a movie like this.

Waiting – The Last Word

Waiting can be called as a delightful movie, which breaks away all the norms often seen in emotional drama movies while trying to present it in a real format. Talking about the performances, Kalki and Naseeruddin Shah have done one of the best jobs giving a decent rating.

Rating – 3.5
