Vijay Sethupathi’s Bollywood debut Mumbaikar’ to release on THIS date
Vijay Sethupathi made his Hindi debut earlier this year in Raj and DK’s thriller web series ‘Farzi,’ in which he co-starred alongside Shahid Kapoor. The actor is currently preparing to make his Bollywood debut with another thriller, Mumbaikar.
Today, the filmmakers stunned fans by announcing the film’s release date. The suspense flick will have its direct OTT premiere on JioCinema on June 2nd. The film will also be accessible for free online viewing.
Santosh Sivan directed the film, which stars Vikrant Massey, Vijay Sethupathi, Hridhu Haroon, Ranvir Shorey, Tanya Maniktala, and Sanjay Mishra. It will be live on June 2nd.
Along with the release date, the filmmakers released a teaser for the film. The teaser portrays Vijay Sethupathi as a thug who makes a living by snatching the children of wealthy people, but he accidentally kidnaps the child of a powerful person. This blunder sets off a chain of events that has a ripple impact on the lives of a few other city dwellers, including Vikrant Massey, Hridhu Haroon, Sanjay Mishra, Ranvir Shorey, Tanya Maniktala, and Sachin Khedekar.
The film follows the journey of the main protagonists, whose lives abruptly intersect owing to a series of events that occur during a 24-hour period. It then shifts the protagonists’ viewpoint on the city and life itself.
Talking about Mumbaikar, Vijay Sethupathi said to ANI “It is an exciting time for Indian actors. We are getting opportunities to work on films across languages. After the love and appreciation I have received for my web series, I am looking forward to the audience’s reaction to this film. The film has a unique concept and is set in a single day and is full of twists and turns.
Mumbaikar is an authentic remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first Tamil film, Maanagaram, which was released in 2017. The film earned positive reviews from reviewers and was a surprise box office success.
Santhosh Sivan is the film’s director as well as cinematographer.
