This name is a brand in Bollywood, who is known to produce some of the best movies in Bollywood. Apart from being a producer, he is also an ace director and screenwriter. He was born in Kabul, Afghanistan but was brought in Srinagar, Kashmir in India. He comes from a rich Bollywood family as his own uncle Ramanand Sagar was an ace filmmaker. He did his schooling from Sri Nagar and then headed to Pune to do his course from Film and Television Institute of India. Seeing his interest in filmmaking and direction, his family supported him and sent him to Pune to do a course from FTII. Currently, he is among the top filmmaker of Bollywood, who is known to make different movies in Indian Cinema.

Since his own uncle was in Filmmaking, he didn’t find any hassle in entering into Bollywood. Hence, his very first tele-film called Murder at Monkey Hill was a big hit, which even helped him to bag National Film Award under the Best Short Experimental Film, while he even received the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film. He then entered into the domain of short films wherein he made a couple of short documentaries, which showcased the plight of destitute kids known as An Encounter With Faces. This short documentary was even nominated to Academy Award under the category of Documentary Short Subject in 1979. Later it was awarded with Grand Prix at the known film festival of Tampere in the year 1980.

After doing really good with making short documentary films, he then headed to feature films. He then made black and white tight budget movie called Sazaa E Maur, which was a thrillers starring Naseeruddin Shah and Renu Saluja. These actors were not too popular at that time and were close friends of his. His next movie was Parinda, which was a big time hit with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Some of his popular movies include 1942: A Love Story, Munna Bhai MBBS, Mission Kashmir, Lage Rahi Munna Bhai, Eklavya, Parineeta, and the blockbuster called Munna Bhai. In fact, his movie 3 Idiots with Aamir Khan, Sharan Joshi and Madhavan made a whopping 3 billion business worldwide turning out to be an all time hit movie. Some of his forthcoming movies include PK, Chittyan, Munna Bhai Chale Delhi and Taalismaan. As far as awards are concerned, he has bagged 7 National awards for making different big time movies, and a number of so many other awards.
