Veteran Actor Radha Files Police Complaint Against Sister Ambika and Brother Over Alleged ₹50 Crore Cheque Fraud
Veteran actor Udayachandrika, widely known as Radha, has filed a formal police complaint accusing her sister, actress Ambika Nair, and their brother, Mallikarjuna (Arjun) Nair, of financial fraud. Radha alleged that her siblings conspired to steal old signed cheques from her residence and attempted to unlawfully withdraw nearly ₹50 crores from her bank account.
Radha submitted a detailed petition to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner on Monday following an email alert from her bank on September 17. The alert informed her that five high-value cheques totaling nearly ₹50 crores—ranging from ₹11 lakh to ₹27.73 crores—were presented for encashment in Ambika’s name. Radha immediately instructed the bank to stop all payments, stating that no financial transactions or debts existed between her and her sister.
Details of the Alleged Conspiracy
In her complaint, Radha alleged that the cheques were filled out in her brother Mallikarjuna’s handwriting. She further noted that Mallikarjuna faces significant financial liabilities stemming from a 2025 Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) case before the Madras High Court and claimed he was under pressure to pay legal penalties.
Radha stated that the stolen cheques belonged to an older 2022 cheque book issued for her business, ARS Garden Studio. After the firm’s name changed to RR Gardens in January 2025, she considered the old cheques invalid and kept them aside. However, due to frequent business travel, she had kept five signed blank cheques in her room to cover routine maintenance expenses and staff salaries during her absence.
Police Investigation Requested
Because Ambika resides on the same property in Valasaravakkam, Radha explained that her sister had access to her room based on familial trust. Radha further alleged that she is now being blocked from checking her valuables, including property papers, gold, and diamond ornaments stored in the same room.
Radha has urged the Greater Chennai Police to investigate the alleged conspiracy and initiate criminal action against her siblings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are currently reviewing the complaint.
