Urvashi Rautela and Sonu Sood Questioned by ED Over Illegal Betting Platforms
Actors Urvashi Rautela and Sonu Sood were recently summoned and interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of an expanding investigation into the promotion of illegal online betting platforms. The inquiry focuses on celebrity endorsements related to apps that allegedly violate Indian gambling laws.
According to NDTV Profit, the ED is examining the pair’s connections to specific online gambling websites. Reports suggest that both Urvashi and Sonu were questioned about their endorsement contracts and promotional roles linked to betting apps, including surrogate platforms like “1xbat.” This site reportedly redirected users via QR codes and web links to 1xBet, a gambling site that is banned in India.
An ED official, quoted by News18, remarked, “These platforms have gained massive visibility by partnering with celebrities and influencers — even in defiance of explicit government bans.” As of now, neither Urvashi Rautela nor Sonu Sood’s teams have issued official statements regarding the situation.
The investigation also involves other prominent figures from the entertainment and sports sectors. Cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina have also been called in for questioning. The ED believes that endorsements from such high-profile individuals have significantly contributed to the credibility and visibility of the banned platforms, facilitating widespread user engagement and financial fraud.
In March, an FIR was filed in Hyderabad against 25 celebrities for promoting illegal betting platforms. This list includes actors and public figures such as Nidhi Agarwal, Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi, and Praneetha, highlighting the extensive nature of the investigation into celebrity involvement in illegal gambling activities.
