The Shahid Kapoor & Alia Bhatt starrer film Udta Punjab faces several cuts in the movie, which refers to the state of Punjab from the film, which talks about drug addiction issues claims the issue. The decision of the board would be simply helping the ruling party in the state called SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal), which is facing problems while dealing the issue of drugs in the state especially. This proves out to be significant considering the assembly poll, which is merely nine months away from now.
This seems to be bizarre to the makers of the film as the board wants to base the film on some fictitious state rather naming anyone from the country. As per experts, it would be rather weird to ask to remove Punjab from Udta Punjab. On the other side, the board member called this to be an insult to freedom of expression. The makers feel when the trailer was allowed to be showcased there shouldn’t be any problem with the film. The kind of situation is a dangerous trend, which becomes objectionable to all.
As per experts, the issue of drugs in Punjab can go against the ruling party in the coming election considering the discontent of the NDA alliance to deliver in this regard. Many feel that this decision to remove the state name is unfair. The argument against the board’s decision seems to be bizarre as many feel that a filmmaker shouldn’t be penalized for a political reason. Earlier, the board wanted 89 cuts from the film but with this demand the makers call it beyond the cosmetic changes. The film revolves around the business of drugs, which is directed by Abhishek Chaubey and it has Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dijit Dosanjh in the lead role apart from Shahid and Alia and is supposed to hit the theatres on 17th June.
