Loads of Thrill backed by Predictable Climax along with powerful performances can make a good weekend watch

The filmmakers – Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Bejoy Nambiar has come together to make a film called Wazir, which is all set to hit the theatres this Friday. The film has an interesting star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. The film revolves around the life of a suspended cop called Danish Ali played by Farhan whose daughter is killed by a terrorist for which her wife Ruhana Ali played by Aditi Rao Hydari blames him for the same. The film is directed by Bejoy Nambiar, while it is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra under the banner of Vinod Chopra Productions in alliance with Reliance Entertainment. Let’s check the crux of this film as under:

Plot/Story

Danish Ali is a suspended office who grieves a lot for losing her four year daughter who was killed in a shootout, thanks to his callousness. His wife – Aditi Rao blames for this mishap to her husband and soon he is suspended once he is seen crossing the botches to catch the terrorist who was behind killing his daughter. He is also seen contemplating suicides, however, defers his decision once he encounters a chess champion called Panditji played by Amitabh Bachchan. This man has lost both his legs along with his wife in an accident. The two are seen bonding over the game of chess and soon their friendship is seen growing up. Pandjitji asks Danish to start the investigation of the accident taking place at the Minister’s place played by Manav Kaul. He suspects the minister to be behind the death of his daughter. For his friendship bond, Danish is seen taking up the investigation, which is closed by the police department. As he intensifies his investigations, Pandjitji is attacked by an unknown man called Wazir. Danish comes in the mid way to save his friend. What, happens next, who is this man Wazir is interesting to explore.

Script Analysis

The film starts with a great gusto making the film very much intriguing and captivating that generates loads of attention. You find the idyllic life of a police officer family crashing down in a tragedy. Thus the first half seems very much captivating with loads of stuff being seen over the silver screen like the unforeseen tragedy strikes without adding any frills in the scene. However, the second half seems dramatically dismaying as the film becomes very much predictable giving an usual climax making things to stretch for long. The thriller is similar to a chess game, which makes the similar to the chess moves; however, the film has more often a predictable move.

The director is seen covering the secret of the film with a see thru blanket, however, the way he dealt with the character of the minister is really weird. In fact, this was the very character that he could have played the best losing the curtain very much early in the film. The film has certain factual errors like how a suspended cop manages to do a number of things like phone tapping of the minister to nakabandi etc in order to nail the criminal, also the on and off to the present and flashback doge is also very much perplexing for the audience giving them a feeling that the film is a blend of Talash and Kahani. The character of John Abraham is a big waste in the film though Neil Nitin Mukesh proves out to be a great savoir in the film.

Star Performances

Let’s start with Amitabh Bachchan, in fact, in this film Big B is the best thing to have. Big B simply has lived the character of a grief stricken father who is out for a revenge showcasing some of the incredible emotion precision. The amount of dexterity Mr. Bachchan has drawn for this character is simply mind blowing. Giving him the right support, Farhan Akhtar is not lagging behind while playing the character of a suspended police officer. With his incredible performance, he has once again proved that he is a competent actor in B Town and can act any character of his choice with utter perfection and professionalism. The rest of the characters are short lived and has not much to convey. Aditi Roy Hydari has not much to showcase except her smile wherein she looks simply gorgeous and curious. Also, Manav Kaul while playing the character of the Minister too has not much to display.

Direction, Editing, Screenplay and other technical stuff

Looking at the overall picture, direction seems to be okay, as Nambiar has managed to play good with the subject of thrill and suspense the best though he may be lagging behind with few things but that can be considered. The other elements like Music, Editing, screenplay and technical stuff has together been okay, which have helped to boosts up the entertainment value. The overall picture of the film is good and competitive and a good option of film to start this year 2016.

Wazir Review – The Last Word

The film can give you a number of reasons to watch, right from the soothing performance of Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar to an intriguing suspense thrill it encompasses to music and a number of other elements that can make a great difference. Luckily the director is seen focusing over the dramatic presentation of certain realistic scenes. However, what defies this element is good amount of groan worthy clichés, the predictable plot along with certain factual errors giving the audience very minimal of stuff to predict and enjoy a perfect thriller.
