Based on the life of a carjacking thugs’ family, surviving in the underbelly of Delhi, Titli is a movie that takes you by your hands and brings you to the stark reality of India’s metropolitan capital where corporates and criminals reside side by side. It is a sordid tale of violence, immorality and bloodshed with a fine tossing of twists and turns that grip you till the end.
The story begins with the dysfunctional family of three brothers, Vikram (Ranvir Shorey), Baawla (Amit Sial) and their father (Lalit Behl), living in a ramshackle settlement that carjack people for a living. The youngest brother Titli (Shashank Arora) is a reluctant partner in the crime and wants an escape route but his family won’t let him. On realizing that he would not give in, they marry him off to Neelu (Shivani Raghuvanshi), in the hope that a wife would bring him to his senses and he would take up the family business.
But Neelu is not your stereotypical obedient bride who considers her husband the be all and end all of her life. She is in love with Prince (Prashant Singh) and refuses all the advances of her husband to consummate the marriage. Instead she strikes a deal with him that promises freedom to both. Will they be able find it?
Directed and written by Kunal Behl, Titli is a different kind of movie where you will find brilliant performances by newcomers. If you have a thing for dark and realistic drama, this movie is a must-watch.
