John Abraham made his entrance this Holi with the political thriller, The Diplomat. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film may not have fully matched Abraham’s star power but opened better than expected at the box office. It has seen a slight growth on its second day. Here’s a look at the trends at the box office.
While there is limited but fierce competition at the box office, Vicky Kaushal’sChhaava continues to be the audience’s top choice. However, The Diplomat is carving out its niche, with decent footfalls reported thus far.On its second day, The Diplomat earned an estimated 5.10 crores, reflecting a growth of 14-26% from its opening day collection of 4.03 crores. This brings the two-day total at the Indian box office to approximately 8.63 crores.
The Diplomat vs. Game Changer
Earlier this year, Ram Charan released his political thriller, Game Changer, which was expected to perform exceptionally well but ultimately underwhelmed. In its Hindi release, Game Changer opened at 8.64 crores, followed by 8.43 crores on its second day, totaling 17.07 crores over the first two days.
Comparatively, The Diplomat is running about 47% lower in earnings. Despite this, early word-of-mouth has been positive, and the film is gradually gaining traction. While Game Changer saw a significant drop at the box office after its opening weekend, there is hope that The Diplomat will achieve a slow but steady success in its theatrical run.
Surpassing Previous Releases
So far, 2025 has seen more failures than successes for Bollywood. However, The Diplomat has made a promising start, already surpassing the lifetime collections of Loveyapa (7.69 crores) and Azaad (7.61 crores). The next targets for The Diplomat include Mere Husband Ki Biwi (11.60 crores), Crazxy (13.09 crores), and Badass Ravikumar (13.78 crores).
