Tanu Weds Manu 3 Faces Legal Hurdle as Eros International Blocks Aanand L. Rai’s Progress with Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan Starrer

The much-anticipated third installment of the Tanu Weds Manu franchise has encountered a significant legal obstacle. Eros International Media Limited has asserted its exclusive ownership over the rights to the franchise, issuing a strong legal notice to filmmaker Aanand L. Rai following reports that he had begun work on Tanu Weds Manu 3.According to the notice, Eros claims sole and perpetual ownership of all negative rights, intellectual property rights, copyrights, adaptation rights, and exploitation rights of both Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), worldwide—including India.
The communication highlights that Eros is already actively producing another project under the franchise. It raises serious concerns over reports of auditions being conducted by other parties for a continuation of the series, labeling such actions as infringement. The notice warns that any dealings involving the franchise rights without Eros’s authorization would violate its legal ownership, and the company reserves the right to pursue appropriate action against unauthorized exploitation. This development has disheartened fans who were eager to see Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan reunite on screen.
Their chemistry was a major highlight of the franchise, which began with Aanand L. Rai’s direction of the unconventional love story between spirited Tanu (Kangana) and simple NRI doctor Manu (Madhavan). The sequel introduced Ranaut in a double role and featured notable performances by Jimmy Shergill, Deepak Dobriyal, and Swara Bhasker, all contributing to the film’s success.
With Eros actively developing a new project under the Tanu Weds Manu banner, the ongoing dispute raises questions about whether Aanand L. Rai will continue to be involved or if the next chapter will unfold under a different production team. At present, the fate of Tanu Weds Manu 3 remains uncertain, leaving audiences anxiously waiting to see if this legal battle will delay or derail one of Bollywood’s most eagerly awaited reunions.
