Emergency, an upcoming movie has welcomed the actress Mahima Chaudhary to play the character of Pupul Jayakar, a cultural activist and an author. The actress disclosed her role and said that Pupul Jayakar was a childhood friend of Indira Gandhi. In her scenes, you will get to watch the non-political side of the former Indian prime minister.
Kangana Ranaut is playing the lead character of Indira Gandhi, which also has Anupam Kher as the unconventional leader J.P Narayan. Housefull 3 actor Shreyas Talpade will portray the character of late politician Atal Bihari Vajpayee who served as Prime minister of India for a longer period.

Mahima, on her role of Pupul Jayakar, said, “It’s a worthy experience to work with Kangana as she easily wears so many hats and nails every character she plays. She is going to present such a significant political leader of Indian History, Mrs. Indira Gandhi.”
She went on to say, “Kangana is directing and producing the film herself. The way she does it gives me a lot of strength. Pupul Jayakar was a childhood friend of Mrs. Gandhi and hence my scenes will show the non-political side of this great and controversial political leader at the time of Emergency.”
“They are extremely open and sincere towards each other. You will watch a very different personality of Mrs. Gandhi. Playing this character was interesting and one of my wonderful experiences.”
Kangana Ranaut also talked about the character and said, “Pupul Jayakar was an author by profession and Mrs. Gandhi’s very close friend. She also wrote the politician’s autobiography. Mrs. Gandhi revealed everything about her personal life to her. So, Pupul’s character is like a thread in a film that connects the audience to the inner world of Indira Ji.”
“This movie’s plot has been showcased on account of the first person. However, it is not a narrative and Mrs. Gandhi and Pupul’s conversation is very deep and emotional.”
Kangana also said that they have presented how Indira Gandhi revealed her darkest and deepest secrets to Pupul Jayakar. This is what makes the character more significant in the movie, Emergency.
Meanwhile, Kangana’s home production Manikarnika films are producing ‘Emergency’. Renu Pitti is co-producing the film. Ritesh Shah is responsible for the dialogues and screenplay.
