Strong female-centric roles which took over the first half of 2022

The first half of 2022 provided us with big blockbuster entertainment, with some of these being headed by powerful women who dominated the half-year like no one else. From Yami Gautam’s A Thursday to Shefali Shah’s Jalsa and Alia Bhatt‘s Gangubai, powerful female-centric roles have played an important role in ushering in the year 2022 for hardcore moviegoers.

Here is a report card of strong female-centric roles which took over our first half:

Yami Gautam in A Thursday

In today’s Bollywood, a thriller starring Yami Gautam has been resurrected. Her portrayal of Naina mirrored the agony experienced by every woman who has been victimized by society. It’s one of those visually stunning and suspenseful thrillers that will have you hooked to your seat until the very end. A Thursday is a much-needed masterwork with a powerful social message about the continuing prevalence of crime in Indian society.

Alia Bhatt in Gangubai Kathiawadi

It’s the story of a girl who is forced into the prostitution business, but how she takes over and builds her own empire is what keeps viewers riveted to the screen until the very end. Alia Bhatt has managed to shine in the white saree like no one else, with meaningful speech delivery, soulful faces, and in between the roguish actions.

Pallavi Joshi in The Kashmir Files

While Pallavi Joshi’s portrayal of Professor Radhika Menon in The Kashmir Files exposed the horrific truth to Indians, she also played a key role in establishing that narrative. The film is a heartbreaking depiction of everything that went wrong in Kashmir back in the day, and Pallavi and the other actors deserve respect for bringing such a delicate issue to light.

Shefali Shah in Jalsa

Jalsa is a film that leaves spectators satisfied, thanks to amazing performances by Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah. Jalsa is the story of two women in their forties who are both bold and vulnerable despite the odds heaped against them. Shefali Shah as Ruksana is a natural fit for her role as the adored housemaid who looks after everyone as if they were her own family. With few lines of words and more emphasis on her eyes than ever before, the actress delivers a stunning performance.

Vidya Balan in Jalsa

In Jalsa, Vidya as Maya brings this character to life with amazing conviction. Vidya’s role is a journalist who hits hard when it’s needed, as a mother to an autistic son.
