Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case: NCB files draft charges against Rhea Chakraborty
On Wednesday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) allegedly filed draft charges against Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty, and others. The charges were filed in association with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020.
According to a report in PTI, special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande stated that the prosecution maintains all charges against all of the accused, as stated in the charge sheet filed with the court. The NCB charged the accused with violating Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(A), 22, 27, 27A, 28, 29, and 30 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Besides that, the trial asked the court to charge Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik with consuming narcotic substances as well as procuring and paying for these substances on behalf of SSR.
Sarpande, the public prosecutor, also stated that the court was planning to file these charges against all of the defendants. However, he did add that it was not possible because some of the accused had filed discharge applications.
The court maintained that the charges would be filed only after the accused’s discharge petitions were decided.
On Wednesday, Rhea, Showik, and all of the other accused appeared in court. V.G., the special judge Raghuwanshi scheduled a hearing for July 12.
In September 2020, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in connection with the case. The Bombay High Court granted her bail almost a month later. However, apart from her, several others accused in the case of alleged drug consumption, possession, and financing are out on bail.
The Narcotics Control Bureau has been investigating alleged drug use in the entertainment industry since the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
