TREKKING TIME: 6 best places around Mumbai in monsoons to explore a new journey

Mumbai’s monsoon season makes you want to hide out in the warm confines of your house or the local cafĂ©, yet there are some of the nation’s most breathtakingly beautiful trekking locations not far from the city. They are greener, colder, and more brilliant during the rains than at any other time. Look at these 6 excursions around the city that are ready to give you a trip that will change your viewpoint!

The surroundings go completely green. The pathways are cut across by streams. Seasonal waterfalls thunder loudly down the mountainside. In the wild, flowers of all sizes, colors, and shapes bloom. The lakes, however, are full of cool, clean water.

The goal of rainy season trekking in the Sahyadris is to fully experience the magic of the rains.

The top treks in Maharashtra during the monsoon season are listed below. The southwest monsoons, which are set to arrive in this region of the world, allow for some of the best weekend hikes from Mumbai or Pune.

1) Kothaligad fort trek

Kothaligad fort trek

The Kothaligad fort, also known as the Peth fort because the settlement of Peth is situated at its base, is the main attraction of the Kothaligad fort hike. Ammunition was kept in the Kothaligad defensive fort. The two caves, one featuring a Goddess and the other named Bhairoba and featuring sculpted pillars, are the main draws of the Kothaligad walk route. Other top attractions are the sunrise and windmill view from the peak’s summit. The abundance of stunning fireflies along the trail during the pre-monsoon season is another highlight of the hike.

As a result, the Kothaligad fort climb is among the top night hikes accessible from Mumbai.

Except for a 10-foot rough section towards the top of Kothaligad, the climb is straightforward for the most part.

2) Harischandragad

Harischandragad

Harishchandragad, a fort hill in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district, is one of the state’s toughest treks. During the monsoon, we would not advise climbing up via the Nalichi vaat or Taramati Ghal. However, reaching the summit via the Khireshwar or Pachnai routes is also feasible and delightful.

3) Prabalgad Fort

Prabalgad Fort

A somewhat difficult steep trek up a rocky hill is available at Prabalgad fort, which is located less than three hours outside of Mumbai. Like other forts in the region, it is situated at a height of roughly 2300 feet above sea level and has been ruled over for many years by Mughal and Maratha emperors. Similar to other well-known trekking locations in the Sahyadri Mountains, Prabalgad is refreshingly cool throughout the summer and teeming with wildlife. You can take a local rail to Panvel, and then take a bus for fifteen minutes to go to the base village of Thakurwadi.

4) Mahuli Fort

5) Vasota Fort

Vasota Fort

The Vasota fort offers quite an adventure for experienced trekkers as well as wildlife enthusiasts because it is surrounded by the deep forest of the Koyna wildlife sanctuary. At 3842 feet above sea level, the fort’s observation deck provides a stunning view of the Koyna River and its surroundings. Other attractions not to be missed include the nearby Nageshwar caves and Shiv Sagar lake. From Mumbai, you can take overnight buses or trains to Satara, from which you can take a bus to the Bamnoli base hamlet.

6) Kalsubai Peak

Kalsubai Peak

In Maharashtra, Kalsubai Peak is a hiker’s paradise. It is the highest peak of the Sahyadri mountains at 5400 feet above sea level and is referred to as the “Everest of Maharashtra.” It offers an advanced-level hike. The Sahyadri mountains and the neighboring Bhandardhara backwaters are visible from a stunning vantage point after a challenging climb over tough terrain.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take advantage of these unique places while it’s monsoon season, so what are you waiting for?
