T-Series Secures Music Rights for Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5 for Approx. Rs. 9 Crores
The Golmaal franchise, one of Indian cinema’s biggest comedy series, has excited fans as Golmaal 5 officially goes on floors. The latest installment promises to be grander than ever, and its brand value has received a significant boost with a recent development. According to a source speaking to Bollywood Hungama, “T-Series has acquired the music rights for Golmaal 5. Bhushan Kumar has paid Rohit Shetty approximately Rs. 9 crores, confident that the film’s music will be a major hit thanks to the franchise’s strong brand.”
Fans might recall that the relationship between T-Series and Rohit Shetty hit a rough patch during Diwali 2024, when Bhushan Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 clashed at the box office with Rohit’s multi-starrer Singham Again. The situation escalated when the Singham Again title track, released just days before the film’s premiere, faced a copyright strike from T-Series.
The label raised objections over similarities to the original Singham (2011) theme, to which they hold the rights. Consequently, Rohit Shetty and his team had to remove the song from all platforms and rework the composition.
Two weeks post-release, Rohit Shetty addressed the controversy, saying, “Arrey, woh T-Series ne strike kar diya na humpe. Isliye humko sab jagah se nikalna pada. Kya kare? Woh contract hi waisa hota hai, which is okay.”
Despite this hiccup, Rohit Shetty and T-Series share a long-standing, successful partnership. The music powerhouse has collaborated on 12 of Shetty’s 15 directorial ventures, including Zameen (2003), Golmaal (2006), Golmaal Returns (2008), Golmaal 3 (2010), Singham (2011), Bol Bachchan (2012), Chennai Express (2013), Singham Returns (2014), Golmaal Again (2017), Simmba (2018), Sooryavanshi (2021), and Cirkus (2022).
The other three films—Sunday (2008), Dilwale (2015), and Singham Again—featured music by Eros Music, Sony Music, and Saregama, respectively.
