‘Stree 2’ Day 5 Box Office: Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Film Crosses ₹200 Crore in India; ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’ Face Tough Times
The horror-comedy Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has seen tremendous success, aided by the partial Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday. The film has crossed the impressive ₹200 crore milestone in India within just five days of its release.
In its opening days, Stree 2 garnered ₹8.5 crore from preview shows, followed by ₹51.8 crore on day one, ₹31.4 crore on day two, ₹43.85 crore on day three, and ₹55.9 crore on day four. By the end of its first Monday, the film’s total net collection at the Indian box office reached ₹228.45 crore, as reported by the film trade portal Sacnilk.
Stree 2 has outperformed the lifetime earnings of the Republic Day 2024 release Fighter, which earned ₹212.79 crore throughout its run. Furthermore, it has become one of the fastest Bollywood films to surpass the ₹200 crore mark, joining the ranks of blockbuster titles like Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, and Gadar 2. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given that Stree 2 faced competition from other theatrical releases during Independence Day.
The film was released alongside Vedaa, starring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh, and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, both of which have struggled at the box office. In its first five days, Vedaa earned only ₹15.50 crore, while Khel Khel Mein managed a mere ₹15.95 crore.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 is the fifth instalment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, following titles like Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. The storyline picks up after the events of Stree, focusing on Vicky and his friends as they attempt to save Chanderi from a headless creature known as Sarkata. The film features a talented cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhishek Banerjee, with cameo appearances by Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
