Alia Bhatt starrer and Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi created a lot of noise at the Box office since the release. The film has been doing well at the box office as well as the word of mouth of the film is good too.
With cheerful throngs at the turnstiles once again, the tense relationship between cinemas and the OTT platform is primed for yet another shift. While the time gap between a film’s theatrical and OTT releases has long been a source of discontent between the two parties, it has now grown, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt seeing enormous box office gains with each passing day.
Netflix has reportedly been “asked” to postpone their streaming plans for Gangubai Kathiawadi by at least a month, to allow the picture to mature in theatres. From the last week of April, Gangubai Kathiawadi will be available on Netflix.
One thing is certain. In the next months, the battle between the two platforms, cinema and OTT, is sure to heat up.
Well earlier during an interaction with Mid Day, Alia said that she had self-doubt when Gangubai Kathiawadi came in her way. Talking about the first response, the actress stated that it was fear and she wasn’t expecting such a film. “I was scared. I was meant to do a love story with sir [Inshallah starring Salman Khan was called off]. Till that point, I hadn’t read the book [Mafia Queens of Mumbai] or known the story of Gangubai.
I didn’t expect a film of this nature at all. So, when I heard the narration, I asked sir everything I feared: Do you think I can do this? Don’t you think I am a little young? He said, ‘I will make you do it.’ It was then I told myself that there should be no scope of doubt in my head when a film like this comes my way. I had self-doubt. So, I put in all the extra effort I could. But in this case, doubt was the key to knowledge, which made me explore the extremes of what I can do with this part,” Alia was quoted saying.
