Lee Joo Sil bravely battled stomach cancer for three months before succumbing to the illness. Her family, co-stars, and fans are heartbroken by her passing.
She passed away at her second daughter’s home in Uijeongbu-si, Seoul, at approximately 10:20 a.m. KST. Despite receiving emergency treatment, she unfortunately could not be saved.
Fans can pay their condolences at Severance Hospital in Sinchon, Seoul. A funeral service will be held on February 5.
Lee Joo Sil previously fought against stage 3 breast cancer thirty years ago and won. Unfortunately, when the illness returned, it proved fatal.
She gained recognition for her role in Squid Game 2 as Park Mal Soon, the mother of vocalist Lee Byung Hun and officer Hwang Jun Ho.
