News has been buzzing around that Soundarya who is the creative director of the web series, Ponniyin Selvan will be co-producing the web series under the banner May 6th Entertainment along with Mx Player.
Since past several years, it was quite intended by the top directors to adapt the most popular historical novel, Ponniyin Selvan into a film or a web series and here it comes. The book revolves around the life of the most popular among the Chozha kings, Raja Raja Chozhan I, more precisely on the early life of the king when he was known as Arul Mozhi Varman.
Recently, Soundarya Rajinikanth has announced that she will be bringing this history to life drafting the book into a web series. Taking on to her Twitter handle, she revealed, “Ponniyin Selvan – This is THE EPIC. I have to and want to do justice to it and do it right. Taking all efforts to ensure the initial work is done with all clarity. Will surely update all on progress god bless us !!! #WorkingToSeePonniyinSelvanOnTheDigitalScreenSoon.
Soundarya will be the creative director of the series and will also be co-producing the series under the banner May 6th Entertainment along with Mx Player. The series will be directed by Sooriyaprathap S who is himself a history scholar and had also worked with veteran director KS Ravikumar and Soundarya during his previous assignments. The series will be streaming soon on MX Player.
Soundarya Rajinikanth’s last film as a director was Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 which is an action-comedy film that was shot simultaneously in two languages- Tamil and Telugu. The film had Dhanush and Amala Paul in the main role along with stars like-Vivek, Hrishikesh, Saranya Ponvannan, and Samuthirakani in other pivotal roles. Bollywood actor Kajol also played the baddie in it.
Besides playing the lead role, Dhanush had also co-produced the film with N Ramasamy. He had also penned the story and the dialogues for the film as well. Sean Roldan had set the tunes and the film was released worldwide on 11 August 2017.
Soundarya’s first directorial venture was Kochadaiiyaan  in 2014 that was written by KS Ravikumar and directed by Soundarya. This was India’s first photorealistic motion capture film, featuring characters design. Rajinikanth, also Soundarya’s father had enacted and voiced the two lead roles for this film.
