Kingdom Producer Naga Vamsi Confirms Vijay Deverakonda Sequel Scrapped After Lukewarm Box Office Response

The eagerly awaited sequel to Vijay Deverakonda’s 2025 spy thriller Kingdom has officially been shelved, producer Naga Vamsi confirmed in a recent interview with Idlebrain. The decision follows the original film’s underwhelming box office performance, dashing hopes of expanding the franchise.

Talking about the film, it is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Kingdom featured Deverakonda as Suri, a constable-turned-spy, and released in July 2025 with a storyline crafted to allow for future installments. Despite high anticipation, the film struggled to gain commercial traction.

When questioned about the sequel, Vamsi was candid: “No, we are not making it anymore.” He added that revisiting the reasons behind the film’s failure would only cause unnecessary pain, particularly for director Gowtam. “There’s no point in talking about what happened because it’ll only hurt Gowtam. There’s nothing more to do now,” he said, expressing a clear intent to move forward.

Though the Kingdom sequel is off the table, Vamsi emphasized that his collaboration with director Gowtam Tinnanuri remains strong. “But yeah, we will collaborate with Gowtam. He is doing a different film now,” he revealed, hinting at fresh projects beyond the Kingdom universe.

Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda—who had hoped Kingdom would mark a major career milestone following recent box office setbacks—has other projects lined up. Among them is the action film Rowdy Janardhana, directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, slated for release in 2026.
