Sikandar: IMPPA Denounces Piracy, Urges Stricter Action Against Illegal Streaming

The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has released an official statement denouncing the piracy of Sikandar, the highly anticipated action thriller featuring Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Sharman Joshi, and Kajal Aggarwal. Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, the film was leaked online in high-definition (HD) just hours before its theatrical release on March 30, 2025, resulting in significant financial losses for the industry.
IMPPA expressed serious concern over the persistent issue of film piracy, which continues to threaten the entertainment sector and adversely impact producers, distributors, and theatre owners. The association pointed out that unauthorized platforms, including Telegram and X, have played a role in the illegal distribution of films despite ongoing warnings and legal actions. “IMPPA has repeatedly raised concerns about platforms like X and Telegram that facilitate unauthorized streaming and distribution. Despite our efforts with relevant authorities, these platforms operate unchecked, boldly promoting the free availability of films on social media,” the statement read, urging authorities to take decisive action.
The association emphasized the broader implications of piracy, stating that the unauthorized release of Sikandar is not merely a financial blow but an assault on the creativity and dedication of the entire film community. “We call upon all stakeholders—including the Central and State Governments, police, cybercrime units, and digital platforms—to collaborate in strengthening legal frameworks and enforcing stricter anti-piracy measures to prevent future illegal activities,” IMPPA urged.Additionally, the association appealed to audiences to support the film industry by watching films through legitimate channels. “We encourage audiences to refrain from engaging in piracy.
Only through collective action can we protect the future of Indian cinema and ensure that filmmakers can continue to create quality content without the threat of unlawful exploitation.”The leak of Sikandar follows a troubling trend of Bollywood films falling victim to piracy despite existing legal protections. Notorious platforms such as Tamilrockers, Movierulz, and Filmyzilla, along with various Telegram groups, made the full movie available for illegal download and streaming shortly before its official release. Reports indicate that the leak likely originated from camcorder recordings in theatres, which were later enhanced to HD quality and circulated online within hours.
