TE3N-Movie-Review

Fast Pace Hampers the Quality of the thriller despite power pack performances

This Friday, you have a couple of releases, which certainly include Te3n, which has Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vidya Balan and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty in the lead roles. The film is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, while produced by Sujoy Ghosh under the banner of. It is a suspense thriller based on the kidnap of the small girl who happens to be the granddaughter of the character played by Amitabh Bachchan. The film was released earlier, but thanks to the release of Sarabjit, Big B requested to push the release by few weeks so that Sarabjit gets a solo release, which seemed to be waste efforts by the mega star. The film is a remake of a South Korean film called Montage and copyright of the film was purchased by the producer. Now, let us dig in deep to get the crux of the film as under:

Plot

Meet John Biswas who has been in search of his grandfather Angela since past eight years who met a tragic kidnapping, which scares him and his wife (Nancy) ever since. However, after the passage of eight years, the world seems to have moved, the couple still remains relentless for the quest for justice. He keeps on visiting Police station every now and then and has only question to pose about his granddaughter, he is ignored and shunned all the time when he visits there. The only one man who helps him is Martin Das who is a former police man and turned priest who has one thing in common with him and John the death of the little girl and had been life changing influence on both of these men. History repeats itself after eight years when the same incident takes place wherein the daughter of cop Sarita Sarkar is being kidnapped in the same way unlike Angela. The priest is dragged in the investigation, while John is seen busy in joining the dots to come out to any conclusion to nab the man behind the crime. So, what happens next is interesting to catch with.

Review

The movie moves ahead rather slowly unlike the way the character of John (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife is introduced. However, for thriller movie, the speed of the movie is always sluggish, which is not the case with TE3N wherein things are just the opposite that hampers the climax the most. One of the key problems with the story is that it becomes predictable for the audience. The kind of story and thrill witnessed in Sujoy Gosh film Kahaani is certainly missing in this movie. Talking about the climax, it is less dramatic and ironically the writers of the script have simply faltered to cater a strong kind of logic to the same. The result of the thriller is very much fickle and at one point of time the tale of the movie even drives at the same pace and similar lanes as seen in the recently released movie of Big B – Wazir. For the smart audience, it is certainly a waste of time since the script is very much shallow.

Performances

Undoubtedly, its Big B who is the game changer in the film with his robust performance. The act of a feeble father played by is fabulous can be expected the same by anyone who loves his grandchild the most and thus seen leaving no stone unturned to get the justice for her lost Angela. His overall performance, be it his body language, silence or other thing, everything seems to be a bang. Your heart can ooze with his incredible performance. On the other side Nawazuddin SIddiqui who is a cop turned priest has a commendable performance though he lacks somewhere in giving the perfect Catholic touch pronunciation in his dialogues. Yet he is known to add some impact on the film with his performance and TE3N is no exception. Lastly, Vidya Balan in the character of a guest appearance playing the cop has changed her image. Though she didn’t get much space to showcase her talent, yet it can sensed easily with her power pack performance.

Direction, Music and other elements

The ridctor is seen taking back in the lanes of Calcutta unlike the way we have seen in films like Piku and Kahaani. The thriller seems to have a slow half but soon you find the movie crawling from mid to end. The eye of the director for lighting is good he has tried to maintain a good amount of variety in it. Ironically the style of storytelling of the director is confusing thanks to the switch on and off things seen in the film. Visually, you can find the movie doesn’t suiting well to the audience since the director has tried to find out a story from the stills of everyday life. Talking about the editing side, it seems lose, a tight one can really helped the film a lot.

TE3N – Last Word

TE3N could have been a better thriller had the makers of the film had worked hard to make an engaging film. The thriller pace was amazing high, which is certainly not the case with such movies. The protocol of making thrilling films have been compromised, which in turned has hampered the quality of the film in a big way. This has therefore hampered the review as well despite having some powerful performances from Big B and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the film.

Rating – 3.0
