Akhil Akkineni’s ‘Agent’s producer issues public apology for box office failure of the film

Akhil Akkineni’s spy thriller ‘Agent’ was one of Tollywood’s most anticipated films. The film has been in the works for several years. And after multiple delays in the film’s release, Akhil’s spy thriller finally arrived in theatres last week on 28 April, but despite such a huge hype before the release, the film tanked at the box office in its first weekend, and many fans and critics chastised the makers for choosing such a mediocre script.

Anil Sunkara, the film’s producer, has finally responded to Agent’s bad performance by issuing a public apology on Twitter. He also revealed in his lengthy public apology that they opted to begin filming without even having a bound script.

In his Twitter apology, producer Anil wrote, “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed. “We don’t want to give any excuses but learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turnaround to make sure, we will never repeat the mistakes. Our sincere apologies to all those who put their trust on us. We will make it up for the losses with dedicated planning & hard work in our future projects.”

Many netizens and filmgoers appreciated the producer for at least showing the courage of embracing the film’s failure publicly.

About Agent: Helmed by Surender Reddy, ‘Agent’ is an action thriller about a  spy with a mysterious past who goes on a mission to uncover the truth about a dangerous terrorist organization. Along with Akhil, the film also stars Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Dino Morea, Vikramjeet Virk, and debutant Sakshi Vaidya in pivotal roles.

The film, which was made on a colossal budget of Rs. 80 crore, has not even managed to cross Rs 10 crore at the box office in India, with a four-day box office collection standing at mere Rs 9.60 crore.
