Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi, died early Friday morning and was cremated at Gandhinagar. After learning of her mother’s death, Prime Minister Modi traveled to Ahmedabad and administered the final rites. He, together with his brothers, set fire to his mother’s mortal remains.
“Hiraben Modi passed away on 30/12/2022 at 3.30 am during the treatment at U N Mehta Heart Hospital,” the medical bulletin said.
According to a hospital bulletin, Heeraben Modi died at roughly 3:30 a.m. at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad, where she was getting treatment for age-related issues. Her condition deteriorated and she was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.
RSS condoles death of PM Modi’s mother
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh expressed its condolences on the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, saying her life was a shining example of commitment to ideals.
“On this sad occasion, all of us volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pay our respects to her,” says a statement published by the Sangh’s leader Mohan Bhagwat and general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale.
PM Modi announced her death in a moving tweet early this morning. “A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “I am sad to know about the demise of respected Mataji Hira Ba. Mother is the first friend and teacher of a person’s life, the pain of losing whom is undoubtedly the biggest pain in the world.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Hira Ba, Matashree. The death of a mother leaves such a void in one’s life that is impossible to fill. I express my condolences to the Prime Minister and his entire family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!” (sic)

PM Modi, who has frequently spoken about his closeness with his mother, recently paid her a visit when in Gujarat campaigning for Assembly elections.
On his mother’s 99th birthday in June of this year, PM Modi posted a blog in which he recounted many elements of her life that “formed his thinking, personality, and self-confidence.”
