Shakti Shalini to Begin Filming in January 2026; Amar Kaushik Shares How Aneet Padda Joined the Project
Before audiences settled in for the grand Diwali release Thamma, they got a 60-second surprise announcement promo for Shakti Shalini. The film, initially rumored to star Kiara Advani, confirmed in the teaser that Aneet Padda, known for Saiyaara (2025), has replaced her. The promo also revealed that this next installment of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is slated for release on December 24, 2026.In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Amar Kaushik—the creative mentor behind the universe and producer of Munjya (2024) and Thamma—opened up about the film and its future.
When asked about the original plan to release two more films in 2026, Bhediya 2 and Chamunda, alongside Shakti Shalini, Amar explained, “There might be just one film from the universe next year. We want to avoid overdose and not flood the audience with too many films in a short span. So for now, the plan is to release only Shakti Shalini in 2026.
”The announcement promo did not reveal the director’s name. Asked whether Amar himself will direct or if Aditya Sarpotdar (director of Munjya and Thamma) will return, Amar said, “We’re still in discussion and haven’t finalized the director yet.”On how Aneet Padda came aboard, Amar shared, “While writing the script, we realized we needed a younger actor. We watched Saiyaara and felt she was perfect for the role. After hearing the story, she agreed to join.”
Regarding the shooting schedule, Amar confirmed, “Filming will start in January 2026.” When asked if he’d consider directing a pure horror film, Amar expressed enthusiasm:
“Yes, I want to make a horror film within this universe, but since it’s a horror-comedy franchise, pure horror might not fit. It’s easier in some ways—you know the tropes, how to set the mood and camera angles. I can even visualize it now. But comedy is essential for this universe. ”He added,
“However, I would love to make a standalone horror film outside this universe, maybe focusing on just one character.”
